Health Protocols
Here at Homestead Simply, we take the health and well-being of our goats seriously.  The senior does and bucks are blood tested annually for CAE/CL, Johnes and brucellosis.  we worm at freshening and as needed during the year, being mindful of wormer resistance.  Bose and CD&T shots are given 4 weeks before freshening.  All deliveries are witnessed and kids are pulled from dams at the time of delivery.  At that time they are dried, weighed, cords cut, and disinfected.  We heat treat colostrum within minutes.  After the dams colostrum is heat treated her kids will receive her colostrum over the next 24 hours or 12-16 ounces.  From then on they are on regulated amounts of pasteurized milk with alfalfa available to nibble.  Bose is also given to kids at time of delivery.  Grain is introduced just before weining.  CD&T vaccine is given at 4 weeks, then again at 7 to 8 weeks.  We preventative treat for cocci at 6 weeks.  We take that extra effort to insure the health and
well-being of kids born at Homestead Simply Dairy Goats.
