keep it simple and take time to smell the roses

Our Herd
Homestead Simply Dairy Goats started with an innocent desire.  We simply wanted to look out on our beautiful pasture and see white goats on green grass.  We also saw the benefits of an excellent all natural resource.  Using that "liquid white gold" to make soaps, lotions and cheeses for our family.  Located in the rolling foothills below the beautiful Sierra Mountains of Northern California, our goals were achieved.
As our family and herd evolved, the natural progression was to include our herd as a 4-h project.  In the beginning we had some setbacks.  Unfortunately we learned the hard way, but it helped us recognize what "not" to do.
On the positive side, it lit a fire in us to gain more knowledge!  Our learning curve was steep.  In the process, we looked to the experience of other serious breeders we met on our journey.  Our family had a lot of motivation to improve our herd.  In doing so, we created some amazing freindships within the goat community.   These friendships really aided in the evolution of our herd.  That was not lost on us.  As we evolved we made it a point to "pay it forward".  The first step was to become dairy goat leaders in 4-h.  We always try to freely pass on any information we learn to those looking to improve.  After all, it only helps these beautiful animals that we love.
On the technical side,  as members of ADGA we take advantage of the linear appraisal program, DHIA Testing and DNA Testing.  All excellent resources used to help improve our genetics.  We also keep strict CAE/CL protocols within our herd as well for those visiting.  All to ensure the future health of our herd and those that purchase from us.  This all takes a lot of hard work.  Our whole family gets involved.  It's a simple philosophy "a family that works Together, stays together."  It is our hope that our effort to teach our kids a good work ethic, responsibility and compassion.  Along with our families want to improve the Alpine and Saanen Breeds, it also has been reflected in our own herd.  Thus, influencing your consideration of adding a piece of our herd, into yours.
